At HBCU Travelers, we are aware of the stigma within the African American community attached to hostels and "budget" travel options. There is a general consensus that such accommodations are not up to par in terms of cleanliness and safety. We understand our peer's concerns, but as avid travelers (and frequent hostel guests ourselves) we also know that these characteristics are false. Hostels are a great way to AUTHENTICALLY explore the countries that you visit and also meet the most extraordinary people!
Cultivatr. is a sustainability brand aimed at reversing the growing market promoting "irresponsible" travel. As the travel industry grows, so do meaningless tours, "overtourism", animal cruelty, disengagement from local people, cultural insensitivity, and more. Cultivatr.'s hospitality group, Cultivatr.Hostels, aims to address all of these issues and more. If you are wary of hostels, we get it, but please- go against your natural instincts, leave your comfort zone, and give them a try when they open their pilot hostel in New Orleans!
